Call for Nominations: Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine

Nomination/Application Deadline Extended: August 30, 2019

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) invites nominations or applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine (INM). The Editor-in-Chief appointment is for a two-year term starting January 1, 2020, renewable twice, for a total of six years.

The IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine was launched in 2007 to provide leading edge information on all aspects of nanotechnology including theory, analysis, design, implementation, and applications related to creation of materials, devices, structures, etc.  With a focus on multi- and interdisciplinary communication in the state of the art in the field of nanotechnology, the magazine covers new research and developments toward a broad audience, tutorials, and surveys in the field of nanotechnology in addition to industry news, research news, education news, policy news, opinion pieces, book reviews, updates on people, introduction to new tools and techniques, funding and meetings news, patent summary, and commercialization.

The candidate must be a member in good standing of the IEEE. He/she must have served as an Associate Editor or in an editorial capacity for an archival journal or magazine. Desirable qualities include: solid technical accomplishments, leadership, integrity and ethical standards, organizational and management skills, and a vision for moving the INM forward.

The duties include the identification of members of Editorial Team and Technical Editorial Board to serve across the scope of the magazine; management of the day-to-day operations of the magazine through EDAS with the assistance of the INM’s publications staff; monitoring of quality and timeliness of publications; identification of areas that require strengthening; and working with the Council and its Technical Committees to achieve these goals.

The Editor-in-Chief will report to the Council’s Vice President-Publications. He/she chairs the Editorial Board for the publication and serves on and is a voting member of the Council’s Publications Committee. The initial term of service will be from 1/1/2020 to 12/31/2021.

Nominations/Applications must include:

  1. Name of candidate;
  2. Name of nominator, if applicable;
  3. A complete biography, including a listing of the candidate’s publications and editorial experience;
  4. A statement of interest of up to 500 words stating the candidate’s plan or vision that details the prospective course of action that the applicant projects to take with respect to the publication; and
  5. Optionally, a brief narrative supporting statement from the nominator(s).
