2015 Message from NTC President
Dear Colleagues:
First off, Happy New Year!
This is another of the messages I send from time to time to the NTC (IEEE Nanotechnology Council) email list of 14,000+ people interested in Nanotechnology. The Chapter of the Year Award for 2014 went to the San Francisco and Bay Area chapter. This chapter is very active and provides an excellent example of what chapters can do, from running monthly meetings to yearly symposia. Check them out at sites.ieee.org/sfbanano/.
We have elected Prof. Yonhua (Tommy) Tzeng, of the National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, to the post of VP for Publications. He has also been named Editor in Chief (EiC) for our web presence. His first task as EiC is to revamp the NTC web site and set up a process for keeping it updated.
We are planning to increase our involvement in education and hope to offer a one-week summer school on nanotechnology, designed primarily for graduate students, postdocs and recent graduates. We expect to receive proposals between now and the summer of 2015 and select one of them at the next AdCom meeting for a summer 2016 offering. The AdCom at its last meeting approved funding of about $40,000 to help defray expenses of the school. A more formal request for proposals will follow soon, but we would appreciate brief letters of intent to get us started. The school should have a theme (for example, graphene devices) and the final proposals should indicate venue, speakers and budgets.
As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions.
