Call for Award Nominations 2023

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) gives several awards yearly. Six are for individuals, two for the best papers published in the Transactions on Nanotechnology (T-NANO) and the IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine (INM), one is for the best Chapter, and one for the best Technical Committee.

Call for 2023 NTC New Awards Nominations

New Awards Nominations are due 1 MARCH 2023  APRIL 15, 2023

The Nanotechnology Council (NTC) has received approvals to offer these new awards starting in 2023:

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) is soliciting nominations for these Awards. See the Awards page for  more information on all the NTC’s awards. To view the full detailed listing of each award please visit the Awards nominations page. Awards are presented at the IEEE-NANO conference.

Nominations for these awards are due on 1 MARCH 2023 APRIL 15, 2023. (Deadline for other NTC awards remains as 1 October.) Nominators should utilize the forms associated with each award description found on the website. Please make sure that nominators and references specifically address contributions, impact, and evidence related to the Basis for Judgment associated with each award.

Best PhD Thesis Award in Nanotechnology

Description: This annual award recognizes a PhD thesis in nanotechnology with remarkable technology innovation or excellence which should have led to publications in NTC venues including journals and conferences. Any member with no conflict of interest (i.e. advisor-advisee relationship) with any member of the NTC ExCom, NTC Education Committee, or NTC Technical Committees can submit a nomination to the Award Committee for this award. Self-nominations are not allowed. Requires three references.

Best-Paper Award for the IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine

Description: This annual award recognizes a highly influential and impactful article of the highest quality published in the IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine (INM) in the preceding 2 calendar years. (For example, the 2023 award recognizes a paper published in 2021 or 2022.) Note: Nominations accepted from any current or past member of the INM Editorial Board within the last 3 years ONLY. No self-nominations. Requires three references.

Test of Time Publication Award

Description: This annual award recognizes a highly influential, widely visible, and impactful article of the highest quality which appeared in any Nanotechnology Council managed journal, magazine, or financially sponsored conference proceedings between 10 years and 25 years ago. Note: Nominations from any Editorial Board member of any NTC publication within the last 25 years ONLY. No self-nominations. Requires three reference letters.

Technical Achievement Award(s)

Description: This annual award recognizes individuals with outstanding and innovative contributions to the different areas of nanotechnology that are represented by technical committees (TCs) as organizational entities of the Nanotechnology Council (NTC), usually within the past 10 and not more than 15 years. Note: Nominations from any member of the NTC Technical Activities Committee within the last three years (including the nomination year) ONLY. No self-nominations. Up to 3 awards will be presented each year.  Requires three reference letters.

Best Paper Award for the IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology

Description: An annual best paper award to recognize a paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology (T-NANO) that is remarkable by its novelty, scientific merit, and potential impact. This award will encourage submission of excellent papers to the journal, and reward outstanding submissions. Note: Nominations by members of the T-NANO Editorial Board ONLY.

Call for 2022 Nominations IEEE Nanotechnology Council

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) is seeking 2022 nominations for the following elected positions.
Note the 2021 Governing documents update altered the election procedures for VPs by adding VP-elects and Members-at Large which we are phasing in starting this year.

(1) Election: President-elect (one year term, 2023)

(2) Election: VP for Conferences (2023-2024)

(3) Election: VP for Finances (2023-2024) [incumbent is eligible]

NEW positions as of 2021 Constitution and Bylaws Update:

(4) Election: VP-elect for Educational Activities (3-years: elect 2023; VP 2024-2025)

(5) Election: VP-elect for Publications (3-years: elect 2023; VP 2024-2025)

Call for 2021 Nominations IEEE Nanotechnology Council

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) is seeking nominations for the following elected positions:

(1) Election: VP for Educational Activities (2022-2023)

(2) Election: VP for Publications (2022-2023) [incumbent is eligible]

(3) Election: VP for Technical Activities (2022-2023)

Unless otherwise noted, all positions are two-year terms and start Jan. 1, 2022.

Nominations should include a statement from the candidate and a bio in IEEE format.

The deadline for nominations is May 24, 2021.

A position description and nomination form are in the  NTC Nomination Package, which can be downloaded here.

Duties for the positions are described in the Constitution and the Bylaws.

Eligibility: Candidates are nominated from current AdCom members or from those past members who have served as Member Society-appointed or ex-officio AdCom members within the previous five years. Review the AdCom roster here.

NOTE: Nominations may be made only by AdCom members (see website AdCom page).

Note: An individual may not serve concurrently as both a Council officer and a Council Member Society representative.

Call for Council Volunteers

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) is soliciting nominations for the vacant positions listed below.

Please send all applications or nominations with a brief (1-2 page) biography focused on qualifications for the position to James Morris by 30 September 2020.

 

Industrial Advisory Committee Chair
“The IAC fosters the development and promotion of industry relations activities and programs for the NTC. These activities include developing contacts with industry, identifying interests, organizing industrial panels, or recruiting industry exhibits at NTC conferences ….” (NTC ByLaws.) The IAC has been inactive, so the Chair will have the opportunity to recruit members as specified in the NTC ByLaws.

Standards Committee Chair
The NTC is responsible for the development and coordination of [Nanotechnology] standards project(s) including their maintenance after their approval as standard(s) by the IEEE-SA Standards Board. The Committee shall organize the development of standards; oversee compliance with the Policy; and submit proposed documents approved by the Committee (with supporting documentation) for appropriate review and approval by the SASB.” (NTC ByLaws.) The Committee’s composition is defined in the NTC ByLaws.

Chapters & Regional Activities Chair
“This Committee establishes and maintains communications with NTC chapters, IEEE Regions and Sections and student organizations.” (NTC ByLaws.) It works with Educational Activities to communicate the availability of Distinguished Lecturers for chapter and regional activities.

Regional Chapter Activities Coordinator (Region 9)
The R9 Chapter Activities Coordinator is responsible for the establishment of chapters in Region 9 (Central & South America) and for their continuing activities, communications, collaborations with other chapters, etc., and is a member of the Chapters & Regional Activities Committee.

Two Regional Chapter Activities Coordinators (Region 10)
The R10 Chapter Activities Coordinators are responsible for the establishment of chapters in Region 10 and for their continuing activities, communications, collaborations with other chapters, etc., and are members of the Chapters & Regional Activities Committee. One position is focused on India with the other responsible for the rest of R10 (China, Japan, Taiwan, SE Asia, Australasia.).

TryNANO Editor-in-Chief
The TryNANO Editor-in-Chief will be responsible for the content of the NTC’s educational website when it goes live later this year, including the maintenance of existing content, its expansion to include new developments in the field, the recruitment of new contributors, etc. The TryNANO EiC will be a member of the Educational Activities Committee.

Nanotechnology Council Seeking Nominations for 2021 VP Publications

As a result of a vacancy after the Annual Meeting elections, the IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) is seeking nominations for Vice-President for Publications to fill the remaining year (2021) of the term of office.

This position will start effective 1-January-2021. Note that the regular election cycle for VP Publications will be at the 2021 NTC Annual Meeting in July for the term from 2022-23. The incumbent VP in this case can stand for election to a full term at that time.

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) is seeking nominations for distinguished lectures. The NTC has created a distinguished lecturers program to enhance the visibility of NTC among nanotechnology societies. The NTC Distinguished Lecturers are appointed to honor excellent speakers who have made technical, industrial or entrepreneurial contributions of high quality to the field of nanotechnology and science, and to enhance the technical programs of the Nanotechnology Council chapters and conferences. Consideration is given to having a well-balanced variety of speakers who can address a wide range of topics of current interest in the fields covered by the Society.

The term for the Lecturers is from January 1 until December 31 of 2020. The Lecturers serve for a one year term, and may be reappointed for one additional year with approval of the NTC Distinguished Lecturer Committee. A budget will be provided each Lecturer to give lectures for NTC Chapters and NTC Conferences based on availability of funding through the NTC. DLs are expected to give a minimum of 2 lectures per year as part of their commitment to serve.

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) is seeking nominations for the following elected positions:

(1) Election: VP for Educational Activities (2020-2021)

The Vice-President for Educational Activities shall establish and chair the Education Committee, and with the participation of the Education Committee shall foster the development and provide direction for educational activities and programs in which the Council is involved, including but not limited to overseeing, coordinating, and monitoring such educational activities.

Unless otherwise noted, all positions are two-year terms and start Jan. 1, 2020.

Nominations should include a statement from the candidate and a bio in IEEE format. The deadline for nomination is October 4, 2019.
