Updated Governing Documents

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council has updated its Constitution and Bylaws effective for 2022.

There are two major changes to the Officers and AdCom membership.

Vice-president-elects have been added to the Officers.
Instead of electing the vice-presidents, the AdCom will now elect vice-president-elects who serve a year as a non-voting member of the Council Excom and AdCom before taking office as a Vice-president. This change is designed to allow the incoming vice-president to have a year of transition and training in their duties. The election of vice-president-elects thus takes place a year earlier than the former election of vice-presidents.

Elected Members-at-large have been added to the AdCom.
Up to three Members-at-Large are to be elected by the AdCom at its Annual Meeting from a slate of candidates in even years and up to three are elected in odd years. The term of the Member-at-Large is two years and the term limit for Member-at-Large is four consecutive years. The duties of Members-at-Large are to provide the Council with independent insights and positions that are in support of the global nanotechnology community, especially those involved in independent research, development and commercialization, to represent the Council positions and statements as needed to these global constituencies and to complete the specific tasks identified in their candidacy documents.

Three new standing committees were added:

  • Fellows Search Committee: This committee to identify potential NTC Fellow candidates and to assist with the nomination process when in the Committee’s judgment they meet the IEEE Fellow criteria. The Committee is independent of and does not communicate with the Fellows Evaluation Committee.
  • Women in Nanotechnology (WIN) Committee: The Committee organizes regional and conference activities to engage female engineering professionals in accordance with WIE principles and guidelines and to introduce them to the NTC community in the promotion of the NTC mission.
  • Young Professionals (YP) Committee: The Committee organizes regional and conference activities to engage early career professionals and to introduce them to the NTC community in the promotion of the NTC mission.

Further details can be found in the Council’s revised Constitution and Bylaws.
