Call for Proposals for Future Sites for IEEE-NANO 2028 and IEEE NMDC 2027

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) is calling for proposals for
future sites for IEEE-NANO 2028 and IEEE NMDC 2027

A. Call for proposals for future site for IEEE-NANO 2028

Initial Proposal Deadline: 31 October 2025

The IEEE International Conference on Nanotechnology (IEEE-NANO) is the flagship IEEE Nanotechnology conference. The conference scope covers a wide range in nanoscience and technology. In particular, it covers AI in Nanotechnology, Emerging Plasma Nanotechnologies, Heterogenous Integration and Chiplets, Modeling and Simulation, Nano-Acoustic Devices, Processes, and Materials, Nano-Biomedicine, Nanoelectronics, Nano-Energy, Environment, and Safety, Nanofabrication, Nanomagnetics, Nanomaterials, Nano-Metrology and Characterization, Nano-Optics, Nanophotonics, and Nano-Optoelectronics, Nanopackaging, Nanorobotics and Nanomanufacturing, Nanoscale Communications, Nanosensors and Nanoactuators, Nanotechnology for Soft Electronics, Quantum, Neuromorphic, and Unconventional Computing, and Spintronics. NANO 2024 was held in Gijon, Spain. Recent conferences were in Jeju, Korea (2023), Balearic Islands, Spain (2022), Macau (2019), Cork (2018), Pittsburgh (2017), Sendai (2016), Rome (2015), and Toronto (2014). NANO 2020 and 2021 were held virtually due to the pandemic. NANO typically runs between early- to mid-July. We are now seeking proposals for IEEE-NANO 2028 which is expected to run in IEEE Region R1-6/7/9 (North and Latin America).

Early indication of an intention to submit a proposal is strongly recommended. Candidates for NANO 2028 will be expected to present a 5-10 minute “Proposal in Preparation” based on their initial proposal at the Fall NTC Conference Committee meeting, and a complete proposal at the NTC Excom and AdCom meetings in July 2026 held at IEEE-NANO 2026 in Nanjing, China.

PROPOSAL FORMAT:

Initial proposals should be prepared in powerpoint presentation format. NTC Conference Proposal PowerPoint template should be used.

Formal proposals must be e-mailed prior to the appropriate deadline to: NTC Vice-President for Conferences John Yeow (jyeow@uwaterloo.ca) with copies to Ed Perkins, NTC Secretary (e.perkins@ieee.org).

B. Call for proposals for future site for IEEE NMDC 2027

Proposal Deadline: 31 October 2025

The IEEE Nanotechnology Materials and Devices Conference (IEEE NMDC) aims to develop critical assessment of existing work and future directions in nanotechnology research from every sector in the nanotechnology research field, with a special focus on materials and devices. NMDC 2023 was held in Paestum, Italy and NMDC 2024 in Salt Lake City (USA). Past locations of the NMDC have been in Asia (Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Nanjing), North America (California, Michigan, Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon), Canada (Vancouver, BC) and Europe (Italy, France, Sweden). NMDC typically runs in early- to mid-October.

We are now seeking proposals for IEEE NMDC 2027 which is expected to run in IEEE Region 10 (Asia & Pacific).

The IEEE Latin American Conference on Nanotechnology (IEEE-LANANO) is a newly established international conference co-sponsored by the IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC). Launching in 2025, IEEE-LANANO is designed to foster global collaboration, accelerate knowledge exchange, and serve as a vibrant platform for advancing nanoscience and nanotechnology across Latin America and beyond.

The inaugural IEEE-LANANO 2025 will be held from November 3–7, 2025, in the historic city of Cusco, Peru – a unique setting for innovation and interdisciplinary exchange. The conference will bring together leading scientists, engineers, educators, and industry professionals from around the world to share breakthroughs and drive impactful innovation in nanotechnology.

Conference Scope

IEEE-LANANO 2025 will highlight emerging and high-impact areas, including:

  • Advanced nanomaterials,
  • New trends in nanoelectronics,
  • Nanotechnology in life sciences,
  • Machine learning in nanotechnology, and
  • Quantum technology.

The conference features technical sessions, live demonstrations, and high-quality publications.

NMDC 2025 will be held virtually, expanding global accessibility while showcasing innovative nanotechnology solutions to today’s societal and industrial challenges.

We invite tutorial proposals from experts across academia, industry, and research institutions. This is an excellent opportunity to share your expertise, connect with a global audience, and contribute to professional development in the nanotechnology community.

Suggested Topics

We welcome tutorial proposals on a broad range of topics, from emerging research frontiers to established techniques with strong practical or industrial relevance. Tutorial Submission Guidelines

Your proposal should include:

  1. Tutorial Format
    Indicate whether the tutorial will be a Half-day or Full-day session.
  2. Title & Abstract
    Provide a clear, concise title and an abstract that conveys the tutorial’s focus and value to potential attendees.
  3. Motivation & Learning Objectives
    Explain why the topic is important to the IEEE NTC community and what attendees will learn. Include a syllabus and learning outcomes appropriate to the tutorial duration.
  4. Speakers
    • List of presenters and their affiliations.
    • You may include multiple speakers (up to 2 for half-day, up to 4 for full-day).
    • Specify which sections each speaker will cover.
  5. Structure & Delivery Plan
    Describe how the session time will be used (e.g., morning lecture, afternoon case studies, Q&A, panel discussion, etc.).
  6. Biographies
    Include a one-page bio for each speaker, emphasizing expertise and prior experience in the proposed subject.

MARSS, the annual International Conference on Manipulation, Automation and Robotics at Small Scales, is a non-profit conference run by the microrobotic community and technically supported by IEEE-RAS and IEEE-NTC.

The 8th Conference, MARSS2025 will be held in-person on July 28-August 01, 2025, at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, USA. The conference is the flagship forum to discuss cross-disciplinary activities on 1) manipulation, automation, measurement, and characterization at micro/nano scales, and 2) all kinds of small-scale robots (nm – cm) and their applications.

Region 9 Nanotechnology Tutorial Day – in Conjunction with IEEE-NANO 2025

We are excited to announce a special online tutorials program from IEEE-NANO 2025 on July 17!

The IEEE International Conference on Nanotechnology IEEE-NANO (https://2025.ieeenano.org/), the flagship conference of the IEEE Nanotechnology Council (IEEE NTC), will be held in Washington, D.C. on July, 13-16, 2025.

As part of the conference activities related to the celebration of the 25th anniversary of IEEE-NANO, the organizing committee has planned a series of outreach activities dedicated to young professionals and researchers from Latin America (IEEE Region 9 or R9). The Brazilian Physical Society (SBF) is a co-sponsor for the Tutorial Day.

In this regard a R9 Tutorial Day is scheduled for July 17th. This event features four invited tutorial talks given by speakers originally from Region 9, covering special topics in Nanotechnology and Nanosciences. The R9 Tutorial Day will be held remotely, in a virtual environment, alongside regular conference activities in Washington D.C.

Participation is completely free of charge, with only a simple free pre-registration required at the conference website.

Since its founding in 2001, IEEE-NANO has been the flagship conference of the IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC). Its sustained support and promotion of advanced research in nanoscience and nanotechnology is unsurpassed in the technical community. Over the years, IEEE-NANO has been held around the globe in China, Germany, Japan, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, South Korea, Ireland, the United States, and online (we will never forget the COVID years) and has benefited from the efforts of countless volunteers. Their ongoing commitment to the NTC and to NANO has allowed our community to share advancements and recognize accomplishments in nanotechnology.

At its beginning, IEEE-NANO was the forum where the current World Nanotechnology Leaders first reported their work and contributed to the development and visibility of many researchers all over the globe. The nanotechnology field has evolved with the times, but the spirit of the IEEE-NANO conference remains. It fosters research discovery, technical innovation, and reduction to practice – the hallmarks of a vibrant technical community.
