IEEE Open Journal of Nanotechnology (OJ-NANO), a gold fully open access journal launched in 2020 by the IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC), publishes research advancing the theory, design, and development of nanotechnology and its scientific, engineering, and industrial applications. The journal has an independent editorial board and an established peer-review process, with a target publication timeline of ten weeks. It is also fully compliant with funder mandates, including Plan S.
Articles published in IEEE OJ-NANO are accessible to more than five million unique monthly users of the IEEE Xplore® Digital Library. The journal has a Journal Impact Factor of 3.0 and is indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)TM by Clarivate Analytics and Scopus®. These achievements enhance the visibility and reach of the journal and its published articles, affirming IEEE OJ-NANO as a reliable, high-quality source of information in nanotechnology.
IEEE OJ-NANO will devote a Special Section to the memory of Professor Malgorzata Chrzanowska-Jeske, who passed away in May 2026. A Life Senior Member of IEEE, Professor Chrzanowska-Jeske was an accomplished scholar, academic leader, mentor, and volunteer whose contributions made a lasting impact on nanoelectronics, design automation, and the IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC). She served the NTC with exceptional dedication, including as Vice President for Finances (2019–2026), Vice President for Technical Activities (2016–2017), a member of the NTC Administrative Committee, Chair of the Technical Activities Committee, Chair of the Distinguished Lecturer Committee, and Chair of the NTC Technical Committee on Nanoelectronics. Her research encompassed computer-aided design for VLSI and three-dimensional integrated circuits (3D ICs), heterogeneous integration, nanotechnology and nano/bio systems, and emerging and renewable technologies. She published more than 150 technical papers, delivered numerous keynote, tutorial, and invited presentations internationally, and received several honors, including the 2008 Electronic Design Automation Donald O. Pederson Best Paper Award for a paper published in IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems. Prof. Chrzanowska-Jeske was also an exemplary mentor to many students who have become active researchers and professionals in nanotechnology and related fields. Her enthusiasm, generosity, and compassion touched many throughout the IEEE and global nanotechnology communities.
Eligibility & Invitation Process:
This Special Section is intended specifically for researchers who had a direct academic or professional association with Professor Chrzanowska-Jeske or who worked with her through the IEEE NTC or another IEEE Society, Council, committee, conference, publication, chapter, or professional activity in which she was actively involved.
Eligible contributors may include her present and former students, collaborators, coauthors, colleagues, mentees, and IEEE volunteers who worked with her through these organizations and activities. General submissions from individuals without a direct association with Professor Chrzanowska-Jeske or her IEEE service are outside the intended scope of this tribute section.
Publication in this Special Section is by invitation only. Prospective authors must first submit an expression of interest. The Guest Editors will evaluate each request based on:
- Prospective authors’ direct academic, professional, or IEEE association with Prof. Chrzanowska-Jeske
- Proposed manuscript’s relevance to her research interests, professional activities, or scholarly legacy
- Manuscript’s suitability for the scope and standards of IEEE OJ-NANO
Following this evaluation, selected authors will receive a formal invitation to submit a manuscript. An invitation permits submission to the Special Section but does not guarantee acceptance. All invited manuscripts will undergo the journal’s standard independent peer-review process and must satisfy all editorial and technical requirements of IEEE OJ-NANO.
APC Waiver: IEEE OJ-NANO will waive the APC (Article Publishing Charge) only for manuscripts that are formally invited by the Guest Editors and subsequently accepted for publication in this Special Section.
Areas of Interest: The proposed manuscript should relate to Prof. Chrzanowska-Jeske’s technical interests and scholarly contributions. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to:
- Nanoelectronics and emerging nanoscale devices
- Computer-aided design and design automation for VLSI and nanosystems
- Three-dimensional integrated circuits and heterogeneous integration
- Thermal management, reliability, and optimization of 3D and emerging computing architectures
- Two-dimensional materials and devices for advanced electronic systems
- FinFET-, CNFET-, and beyond-CMOS technologies
- Energy-efficient, low-power, and unconventional computing systems
- Nano/bio systems and bio-inspired nanoscale technologies
- Nanotechnology for emerging and renewable-energy applications
- Nanosystem integration, packaging, modeling, testing, and design methodologies
Submission Information:
Researchers who meet the eligibility criteria and are interested in contributing should contact the Lead Guest Editor, Jin-Woo Kim, at jwkim@uark.edu by September 7, 2026, and provide:
- A tentative manuscript title
- A brief description of the proposed paper
- A short statement explaining their direct academic, professional, or IEEE association with Prof. Chrzanowska-Jeske
The Guest Editors will evaluate all expressions of interest and notify the selected authors who will be invited to submit manuscripts. Prospective authors should not submit a manuscript to the Special Section unless they have received a formal invitation from the Guest Editors.
Invited manuscripts for IEEE OJ-NANO must be prepared using the “IEEE manuscript template” and “Information for Authors” at https://oj-nano.ieeenano.org/submitting-an-article/; and be submitted online via the IEEE Manuscript Central found at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/oj-nano.
When submitting an invited manuscript, authors should select the “Special Issue: In tribute to Prof. Malgorzata Chrzanowska-Jeske” as a manuscript type rather than “Regular Paper.” Authors should also state in their cover letter that the manuscript was invited for consideration in the Special Section “In Tribute to Professor Malgorzata Chrzanowska-Jeske” and briefly describe their relationship with Prof. Chrzanowska-Jeske.

- Anticipated Completion of the Special Section May 1, 2027
NOTE: Articles accepted before the completion date will be published online promptly upon acceptance. Upon completion of the Special Section, all contributing articles will be assembled into an online collection accompanied by a Guest Editorial.
